Sow your seed in the morning…
Ecclesiastes 11:6
“Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.”
Sow your seed in the morning, then again at night….we were able to practice this fun scripture first hand this past week. Did anyone else get to plant buckets and bricks a couple of weekends back in the garden? The temperature dipped just below freezing here for a few nights after transplanting the seed starts so we had to attempt to protect them from the elements.
Come on South Carolina…April 15th is supposed to be the safe date to plant after! I think I was being punished with this little cold snap because I chose to engage in a little Facebook banter making fun of the snow my friend in Indiana received. I mean she moved to Indiana, what does she think will happen in April? Of course it’s going to snow!
It’s a bit too early to conclude if my plants were effected by our little cold snap. They weren’t so big when I carefully planted them, so now we wait to see if they will recover. I’ll just say the tomatoes are looking rough. But with plants and sometimes people, when they go through trials they come out even stronger in the end.
I’ll go out there this week to access the official damage and finished re-planting the rest of the garden. Often times things happen when you plant in the garden that are completely out of your control and cause you to have to sow your seeds again. Don’t get discouraged and garden on.
I’m happy to report the sweet potato slips are in the ground! I am hoping they are fruitful, and I am even more excited they are off my dining room table. Now I only have to combat the piles of stuff teenagers like to leave on the table like piles of papers, books, soccer cleats, softball bags, dirty socks…sigh.
I do have a few remaining slips to use as replacements just in case some of them don’t take off. This was a fun experiment. I’m always so excited when something new I try works!
That’s how I feel with the Glowforge, it’s very exciting to see a project that you designed come to life when it’s cut or engraved. I’m still surprised when it does what it’s made to do.
I designed these little garden markers this week and they are not only good looking, but also very functional! You may remember last year when one of my sons weeded my Dill. Sometimes we need signs on things we are growing around here!
So back to that verse…”Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well”. Let’s just say I’m hoping for the equally well result.
I was also thinking how true this verse applies to parenting. I feel like I’m constantly re-sowing! I was looking forward to the promise in Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” I supposed it does say train and not teach, so that training is where all the re-sowing is involved. It’s exhausting!
Speaking of training, I think I may have to add a new routine to my seed starts next winter. I put on the calendar that along with planting seeds indoors I also need to start working on stretching and squats. I was so sore the day I planted the garden, and the following couple of days after that were also rough. I guess all the sitting around with baby, and covid canceling my gym membership has caught up to me! Yikes!
Here’s to getting a good start to my garden and physical activity! I hope you have some garden & activity successes this season.
If you would like to create garden markers I have the SVG files in the free resource library free for the taking. I haven’t created a tutorial for them yet because I am testing the best material and protective coats that allow them to hold up in the extreme conditions of the garden. Many suggest using acrylic for the garden markers but I wanted to see if wood would work as well. Enjoy!
