Oriental Green Beans Recipe
This recipe for oriental green beans is a crowd-pleaser that I often served to guests to add some life to fresh green beans. The combination of garlic and soy really adds dimension to plain green beans.
On our hobby farm we get more green beans than any other crop. One green bean plant produces so many beans, and if you continue to pick them, they continue to grow more beans.
Green beans are also really easy to preserve, for more about that head over to Farm to Fork Green Beans, but the point is we eat alot of green beans. I can’t remember the last time we didn’t have green beans in our freezer.
For me, it’s an easy side dish that checks the vegetable box for me to serve, so I often get lazy and just quickly steam them and put them on the buffet. When I have a bit more time, or I’m pairing with other Asian food, I often turn to this green bean recipe.
How to Make Oriental Green Beans
Start by bringing 1 1/2 pounds of fresh beans to a rapid boil and cook them until just tender. This may take about 4-5 minutes.
While green beans are cooking, in a small bowl combine 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oil, and 1 teaspoon of sugar.
Drain beans and set aside then put a little olive oil in a wok and place it over medium-high heat. Mince 6 cloves of garlic and add it to the wok, then cook until softened for about 20-30 seconds.
Next, add green beans to the wok and stir and constantly until well-coated for about 2 mins. Add soy sauce mixture and continue to stir until most of the liquid is absorbed.
